"I’d denied it ever since I was a kid."

I became a Christian, I thought that was the way to deal with this and I prayed hard and tried for 30-some years and then at the end, I was just going, ‘I’m still gay. I know I am.’ And I just got to the place where I couldn’t take it anymore … when I was going through all this darkness, I thought, ‘Just end this.’"

Gospel music singer Ray Boltz has come out as a gay man.

  1. Wow--that's an interesting and surprising article. How did you find it, Matt?

  2. Several places. "Christianity Today" has it up on their blog. I'm not a regular reader of the Washington Blade.

  3. This was extremely surprising as was the content that listed several other well knowns that have come out which I wasn't aware of. I always did wonder about Kirk Talley though, I went to a jewelry party at Shelly Temples where he was the consultant. It didn't seem strange at the time, but a man selling costume jewelry is different.

  4. I learned about Kirk Talley a couple years ago. I Googled his name for something and found "out" about him. I think he continues to sing in churches, but some have refused to accept him. My biggest memory of Kirk is interviewing him for a high school research project - I talked to him after a concert at Memorial Hall in Dayton, and he agreed to the interview.
