meeting with the presidents

Recently, my step-father-in-law attended a reunion of his squadron from the U.S. Air Force. The reunion was held at the base in Rapid City, South Dakota. Guess who he and my mother-in-law were able to see when they were there?

The presidents were gracious enough to grant an audience, up close and personal.

Question: if plans were made to add a fifth face to the monument, whose would you suggest? I would vote for FDR, for leading the country through the Great Depression and the majority of WWII.

  1. Matt,

I would argue for James Madison ot James Monroe over Teddy Roosevelt, and FDR isn't a bad choice.

Did you get a chance to see the Crazy Horse monument-in-progress? (I've always wanted to see it.)

  2. My in-laws went to South Dakota a few weeks ago, not me (unfortunately). I went to both spots about 25 years ago, shortly after Korczak Ziolkowski died. They had only blasted through under his outreached arm - I don't remember if they had begun work on his head or not. I plan to go back someday soon.
