Dr. Brown to speak on postmodernism

Dr. William Brown, president of Cedarville University, will speak on the emergent church and postmodernism during campus chapel at 10:00 AM today (April 14). You can hear it online here.

Dr. Brown sent an email to Cedarville alumni, in which he discussed the upcoming chapel program as well as the recent controversy.

emerging Indy

The emerging church in Indianapolis is having the spotlight shone on it, courtesy of Indy.com. Quite frankly, I'm glad to see this site, which caters to the twenty- and thirty-something crowd, willing to write about church-related issues. You know, moving beyond the usual stuff like where to eat, which movie to see, and at which bar to hang out.

In case you're interested, I once attended the church where Shane Fuller used to pastor the youth. It's definitely a different kind of church than the one he pastors now.

More on Cedarville and Claiborne

I don't really have anything new to add beyond what I've already said, but I do want to bring your attention to two posts about Cedarville's (dis)invitation to Shane Claiborne. They were written by two bloggers whose opinions I respect (but with whom I don't always agree), Mark Byron and Scot McKnight.

I'm surprised that Mark Byron isn't a bigger light in the blogosphere. I don't know what his traffic numbers are, but I'm sure that whatever they are, they're not high enough. He's been in the blogging game for several years, and his posts are thoughtful and well-written. I especially enjoy his Edifier du Jour series. If you're not a regular reader of his blog, you really need to become one. (And, Mark, I'm not saying all this just because you've been a faithful reader of mine since nearly my beginning. Truly, I'm not...)

"Time" to look at Rob Bell

Rob Bell is featured in a small-ish article of Time magazine. I have to confess, I don't know much about him. I understand that he pastors a church, he produces some videos, he is involved with the emerging church movement, and some people don't care for his theology. I know he's written a couple of books, his latest with the very provocative title of Sex God. He was in Indianapolis last week for his tour.

UPDATE: Bell has his supporters as well. As with anything, don't just believe other people's words about Bell, positive or negative. Check it out for yourself.
