The NYT has an article on something that must be anathema to the celebrated chefs of NYC: the chain restaurant. We are quite accustomed to them here in Indianapolis, and they've sounded the death knell for many locally-owned restaurants. I must admit, though, I completely enjoy the buffalo chicken sandwich at Max & Erma's.
What about you? Do you celebrate or curse the chains?
Chains serve a purpose. I'm traveling or new to an area, no idea what might be good, I know that Applebees will have the Veggie Patch Pizza (yum) and Max & Erma's will have French Onion Soup. Reassuring and helpful.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, when a friend or neighbor tells me that independent place X has teh world's best French Onion Soup. I'll go there first.
Oh my gosh! A comment of mine actually posted on your blog! Holy Toledo!
ReplyDeleteNice to see you again, Lemming. Where you been? ;)
ReplyDeleteStill reading you, just been unable to comment! I have this problem on other blogs, too.

Reminds me of visiting Niagara Falls with my husband. He wanted native food so he took our daughter to the local hot-dog stand, while I took our son to Red Lobster. Native foods are fine, but hot dogs will always remain questionable.
