The kind of Democrat I like.

Now he is enduring more hatred than perhaps any other member of Congress, much of it from fellow Democrats. His name has become a slogan: “Stop Stupak!”

Scott Schloegel, his chief of staff, said wearily, “I can’t tell you how many New Yorkers have called me up and yelled at me about this Stupak guy.”

With final negotiations on a health care overhaul beginning this week, complaints about “the evil Stupak amendment,” as the congressman dryly called it over dinner here recently, are likely to grow even louder. The amendment prevents women who receive federal insurance subsidies from buying abortion coverage — but critics assert it could cause women who buy their own insurance difficulty in obtaining coverage.

Mr. Stupak insists that the final bill include his terms, which he says merely reflect current law. If he prevails, he will have won an audacious, counterintuitive victory, forcing a Democratic-controlled Congress to pass a measure that will be hailed as an anti-abortion triumph. If party members do not accept his terms — and many vow they will not — Mr. Stupak is prepared to block passage of the health care overhaul.

Senator Harry Reid, the majority leader for the Democrats, made a strong proclamation that Osama bin Ladin will be "eliminated." I think it was an important and worthwhile thing to say, but it's not something Reid said recently. He didn't even say it during this election cycle. He actually said it over two-and-a-half years ago, in March 2006.

I guess he was waiting for a Democrat to run the White House again. Okay, Harry: time to give 'em hell.

the latest polls

It's not looking too good for Hillary. The latest polls show she's losing the strong lead she had, not just in Pennsylvania but in my home state of Indiana, too. Many people have said that Hillary should pull out of the race if she doesn't "win big" in the remaining primaries. What will happen if Obama wins Penn, Indy, and North Carolina? I'm guessing Hillary will stay...

I've seen several Obama ads on the telly, but none for Clinton. Have any other Hoosiers seen any Clinton ads?

Can the Democratic Party truly understand Christians?

Not if the chairman of their party expresses ignorance about what Easter really means.

Just you wait until the Democrats are back in charge... again...

They'll get rid of him. Yep, they're saying it out loud.
